Description

This story takes place in the coalmining foothills of West Virginia; the year is 1957. Emily, a fifteen-year-old girl, has to walk about three miles through the woods to catch her school bus. During the winter months it’s dark when she leaves to catch the bus and it’s dark when she gets home. A young girl went missing two years ago and was never found. This causes Emily to have a terrible fear of walking alone through the woods. She befriends a neighbor’s dog, which she names Angel. He waits at an abandoned mine every morning and walks through the woods to the dirt roadway with her. Emily experiences many incidents during her daily walks. Her faith gets her through some terrible occurrences. One snowy winter evening, Emily doesn’t return home from school. It’s like she’s vanishes off the face of the earth. What happens to her? Has anyone seen the neighbor’s dog? Did a sexual predator capture Emily? Did she meet danger on her way from school? Has someone killed Emily?
