The author is a product of the “Greatest Generation,” meaning that he has lived through economic depressions and several wars. Life’s experiences left an indelible impression: adversity is arguably the most powerful force in developing maturity. Learning to persevere in response to challenges is one of the essential steps along the road to adulthood. The message the author conveys to young readers, imparted in the guise of adventure stories, is - be resolute, be honest, be kind, have courage, and have faith in yourself.
The author brings to his writing a broad experience of human nature garnered over the years from his relations with patients and their families. He has worked with young people as a teacher and mentor throughout his career in medicine, always learning from them. Today he continues to mentor under-privileged students in an urban community.
