At an airshow mall display put on by the Silent Flight Airshow team, Bobby receives a perfect paper plane, the PPP-1, from Dave, a hang-glider pilot and paper airplane pilot. The night before he would launch his PPP-1, Bobby eats a peanut butter and jam sandwich, not realizing he had dripped some jam on his paper plane. While he slept, ten picnic ants made their way to the PPP-1, lured by the delicious smell of blackberry jam.
Early the next morning, Bobby excitedly grabs his PPP-1 and throws it for a test flight. The first time, it lands on the grass. But when he threw it as hard as he could, he is astounded to see his paper plane going higher until it is out of sight. Bobby's paper airplane, being driven by ten crafty picnic ants, is spotted and makes the news broadcasts nationwide and now everybody is on the lookout for the PPP-1.
Dave, the airshow pilot, takes Bobby and his mother on a journey like no other as they try to catch the paper airplane that was being driven by some very smart picnic ants. Meanwhile, the ants learn the importance of teamwork and they are able to learn to steer the paper airplane in the journey of a lifetime. The Perfect Paper Plane and the ants are now on the run as they fly.
