Life is a journey we trek only once and time travels so fast that treasured moments are gone before we can even think of them. Nevertheless, we always have the option to stop, be still and start looking at the wonderful things around us.
This is the heart of Dr. Kay L. Jurgenson’s self-published book Hold On! Life is Precious!, an anthology of short stories that revolves around five themes reflecting the book author’s own journey in life.
|
Each theme brings to light how our busy lives make us miss the lessons from ordinary things we always take for granted. Dr. Jurgenson includes stories about the wonder of life, the obstacles we must all deal with, our connectedness with our global family, our faith in God , believing that in Him all things are possible, and the humor we need for us to laugh in times of trouble when we must not take life too seriously.
The profundity of the author’s life puts substance to her stories. She is a wide traveler to more than 30 countries, a Peace Corp Volunteer for 2 years, a pastor and chaplain for over 12 years, a high school teacher, and a daughter of editors and publishers of a local newspaper in Minnesota. The life Dr. Jurgenson is living through ushers her journey as a self-published book author.
The publishing of Hold On! Life is Precious! was inspired by an old picture of the book author and her brother riding a tricycle when they were still little children. Dr. Jurgenson mused, “Time and again as I stopped to view the picture, I was reminded of beauty and simplicity of life… So I began to write. The stories came, one after another. Each story brought another person, event or happening to mind. I wrote how grateful I was to be alive at this time in history and to be part of such extraordinary changes, which have occurred since those two little people rode that tricycle.”
She searched online for a book publishing company that would suit her needs and found Xlibris , whose excellent publishing services pleased her. Dr. Jurgenson shares her experience with an Xlibris Customer Service Representative: “She was an excellent listener, and thorough in her questions and answers. She expressed real interest in me and my book…”
Dr. Jurgenson’s wide network of friends, co-workers and people connected with her family-owned and operated newspaper makes the distribution of her published book easy. Its popularity results to several book signing engagements and interviews that give her free publicity by several newspapers and an announcement on a radio station in Minnesota. She is also Grand Marshal of an annual hometown parade in Clarkfield, Minnesota where she marches past the streets in a white horse-drawn carriage followed by a book signing in the town’s city hall.
Hold On! Life is Precious! is available in various bookstores and gift shops in key areas in Minnesota and Dr. Jurgenson promotes her published book through church and other large gatherings where she is invited to give inspirational talks. She was a speaker in a recent Arts Fair in Canby, Minnesota , attended by over a thousand people.
Dr. Jurgenson involves her readers in a meaningful way through brief reflections from each story. Her self-published book is good for self-meditation and is a valuable gift for the holidays.
