Description

This story is about a history professor who undergoes hypnosis to overcome his nightmares, and regresses to his past life as a Civil War soldier. There, he meets his soul mate, and becomes desperate to find her again in his present life. Although his search is complicated by other characters, plot twists, and his own failings, he eventually learns important lessons about eternal love. The book has special appeal for readers interested in history, love stories, and past life connections. It also offers comfort and hope for the bereaved, through a reassuring perspective on eternal love and soul mates.

The main character, Stuart Grantham, is a respected history professor at a small college in Tennessee. But all of a sudden, he begins to be tormented by terrible nightmares. He finds himself losing his grip, and decides to undergo hypnosis with the help of his friend, psychologist Andy Kleiner, to get to the bottom of these frightening dreams.

Suddenly, Stuart finds himself in another world as William Stamp, a Civil War soldier. One moment he is saying goodbye to his lover, Amanda Jetterson, and the next minute he is at the front and missing her terribly. He can hardly believe his eyes when Amanda shows up disguised as a man in order to be with him. Before he knows it, they are fighting together in their first battle, and Amanda is mortally wounded while shielding him from a bullet.

Stuart is so moved by his past life regression that he launches a quest to find his soul mate once again. But could it be someone he’s already met? His instincts draw him to Emma Wallingford, a new colleague from England. But Emma doesn’t believe his past life regression was real. On the other hand, Misha Anderson, his grad student, obviously worships him. She undergoes hypnosis with Andy’s help, and discovers she had been Amanda in her past life. But can Stuart trust Andy, who obviously wants Emma for himself? The only thing he knows for sure is that his past life was very real.

Just when Stuart thinks he has it all figured out, the nightmares start again. Despite his misgivings, he turns again to Andy for further hypnosis. Obsessive and impulsive, Stuart muddles through all of his misadventures, and finally learns some hard lessons about eternal love and soul connections. The story intrigues and touches people across all walks of life, entertains movie buffs, and is particularly comforting to those who are seeking a deeper meaning of life-and-death issues.
